Emergency Planning - Three Day Stockpiling Food

Emergency planning with food doesn't have to be that complicated or expensive. There are a few basic stockpiling food rules to follow. First of all, keep the emergency planning simple. It's only three days, after all. So, that's three breakfasts, three lunches, three dinners and some snacks in-between, and it's a good idea also to have some food that you can grab very easily as get-away food, in case you have to grab something in a hurry. The next thing is, to use familiar foods. It's no use buying lentils if you don't like lentils. So choose foods that you are comfortable with and you and your group and family are comfortable with. Thirdly, go for variety when stockpiling food. While it may seem like a good idea to have baked beans at every meal - and it might seem easy - having baked beans for three-meals-a-day for three days is going to be very, very boring. So, look for a variety in your stable food supply that you enjoy. Make your stable food supply

nutritious as well. Having a nutritious diet is your best shot at staying well in the situation where you may be injured or you may find it hard to stay well. It's also very important in your emergency planning is to consider the special dietary needs of your group. If you have some vegetarians, for example, or people who have coeliac disease, you must consider their needs when stockpiling food, and don't forget your pets; make sure they have enough stable food supply for at least three days as well. It's also really important to make sure you have some food that doesn't require cooking in your stable food supply. It could be that the electricity is gone and that you can't have your normal cooking processes. So, things that you can eat directly from the can or the packet are always a good thing to have on-hand, and don't forget that emergency planning get-away kit. Having a few things that you can grab very quickly. Like muesli bars or a bag of nuts or dried fruit is always a good idea. Once you've got your stockpiling food supplies organised, the next thing is storage for your stable food supply. A cool, dark place is what we recommend. The best place to store your emergency planning food supply is in your pantry. Re-stock used items when you shop. Remember, three-days' worth of stockpiling food is the minimum we recommend. The more you have, the better. Remember, it's not that complicated. Keep it simple. Keep it familiar. Make it nutritious. Go for variety. Cater for those people with special needs. This will help you to get ready and get through.
